לפי מחקר מ- 2013, שבוצע באוניברסיטת בריסטול לווטרינריה באנגליה, הגורם הראשי שמשפיע על האגרסיביות הוא….. הבעלים!
ממצאי המחקר מראים לדוגמה:
1- לבעלים מתחת לגיל 25 יש סיכוי כפול להיות עם כלב אגרסיבי מאשר בעלים מעל גיל 40.
2- לכלבים שעברו אילוף מהיותם גורים יש סיכוי נמוך יותר ב-50% להיות אגרסיביים מאשר כלבים שלא עברו אילוף.
3- כלבים שאולפו בשיטה חלקית (ענישה בלבד) בעלי סיכוי כפול להיות אגרסיביים לזרים, פי 3 כלפי המשפחה.
אם תקחו רועה גרמני, ששייך לבחור צעיר בן 21 שלא העביר לכלב שיעורי אילוף על ידי מאלף….. ומולו פיטבול שעבר שיעורי אילוף בשיטה המלאה (לא חיובי ולא שלילי) ששייך לבעלים עם ניסיון, מי מסוכן יותר? על פי המחקר הרועה גרמני מסוכן פי כמה וכמה.
